In the Grade 2 Unit Animals and the Grade 3 Unit Plants the students became familiar with the basic needs of plants and animals. In this Unit they begin to explore and compare ways in which communities of plants and animals satisfy these needs in specific habitats.

In their investigations, the students also study some of the factors that affect various habitats, including changes that occur naturally and changes brought about by people.Simulation games are included in some Investigations to help the students further develop their understanding of the concepts.
