La soirée des amis

Robert has just arrived in Canada from his native Armenia. Émilie, a French-speaking Quebecker, has just moved to the same community in English Canada. Neither of them has any friends. Monday, they are to begin eighth grade in a new school. They are unhappy and afraid.

The French teacher announces that the class is going to put on a cultural evening. There will be presentations on music and dance and food from several countries is to be prepared. Émilie, whose mother is from Morocco, invites Robert to her home to make Moroccan couscous.

The two new students become friends and Robert begins to feel more comfortable at school and to develop self-confidence.
