Les trésors d`Haïti
In October, 2009, Karine and Antoine, two university students, leave Montreal to work as volunteers in Port-au-Prince. Karine has a passion for helping others, while Antoine is looking for his roots: his grandparents fled Haiti in the 1950’s.
The two young people experience cultural shock when they come face to face with the level of poverty and misery in Port-au-Prince, but with the help of their host, Dr. Préval, his family, and their fellow workers, they soon find themselves able to make a contribution in the hospitals to which they have been assigned. They make friends, and it soon becomes apparent to everyone around them that their feelings for each other are becoming serious.
And then comes January 12, 2010, as an earthquake hits the capital and surrounding area. Antoine is trapped under a fallen door and suffers several serious fractures. Medical supplies are limited and Karine fears for her friend’s life.
Les trésors d’Haïti tells a story of love, courage and compassion for the less fortunate. It will open students’ eyes to a part of the world with which they are probably unfamiliar.
